Aprilia dominates Mugello: Fernández wins sprint, Martín sets speed record

Aprilia has established itself as a clear force during the weekend at Mugello. Raúl Fernández won the sprint distance ahead of his brand colleague Jorge Martín and thus took the lead in a direct head-to-head battle. The victory is particularly significant for Fernández – it is his first sprint triumph in the MotoGP class. Marc Márquez followed in fifth place, while world champion Francesco Bagnaia only managed seventh position.

Martín breaks speed record

Already on Saturday morning, Jorge Martín had set a milestone: At 368.6 km/h, he traversed the legendary Mugello straight and thus broke the previous KTM record from 2023. The Italian circuit with its endless acceleration stretch proved to be ideal terrain for the Aprilia machines.

Aprilia also dominated in qualifying: Marco Bezzecchi secured pole position and set a new track record in the process. The Italian will be flanked by two other Aprilia riders on Sunday – an impressive show of strength by the manufacturer from Noale. Bezzecchi himself could not repeat the sprint victory and classified himself in fourth place.

Strong starting position for the main race

The dominance of the Aprilia bikes is evident not only in individual results but also in the overall constellation. With three riders in the front row and two sprint podium finishes, the team has created a strong starting position for the main race on Sunday. For Fernández, who is fighting for his future in MotoGP, this first sprint victory could send an important signal.
