Henning Reistad scored 19 goals for Esbjerg in the second Danish semi-final series, but Odense won 33:30 and forced the championship into a decisive third match.
The Norwegian handball legend Henning Reistad delivered an impressive individual performance: Aftenposten reports that the Esbjerg star scored 19 goals in the second DM semi-final and kept his team in the game for a long time. However, his scoring rate was not enough to overcome the opposition.
Odense prevailed 33:30 in the end and forced a decisive third match in the Danish championship series. Berlingske reports that this has driven the tension in the final series to its peak. Whilst Reistad shone individually, Esbjerg failed to bring their team performance to the required level.
The Danish handball championship is thus developing into a thriller: after the first match, it stood 1:0 for one of the two clubs, now the return match follows with an open outcome. DR explains that such final series in Denmark traditionally go to three matches if no winner is determined after two matches.
For Esbjerg, the defeat means the team is now under pressure – a win in the third match is essential to turn the series around. Reistad will have to play a key role again, even though his 19 goals did not lead to success this time. Handball fans in Denmark are looking forward to the final.
