Marco Bezzecchi has secured his first victory in three races at the Italian Grand Prix and achieved Aprilia's historic breakthrough at Mugello. The Italian rider has taken the lead in the world championship standings ahead of his team-mate Jorge Martín.
Marco Bezzecchi has orchestrated Aprilia's first victory at their home race in Mugello perfectly. The Italian pilot overtook Francesco Bagnaia, who had been leading the race, and pulled clear. With this victory, Bezzecchi consolidates his leading position in the riders' championship and breaks a decades-long dominance: Ducati had long claimed Mugello as a home advantage.
Bagnaia, who had started from sixth position, secured a podium place in the end and described it as "luck" not to have been pushed back by Japanese rider Ai Ogura in the final lap. The Ducati works rider led the first half of the race but had to succumb to the pressure from Bezzecchi's Aprilia.
Jorge Martín completed the podium in second place and thus limited the damage in the championship. The Spaniard, who had set the MotoGP speed record on Saturday with 369 km/h, could not match Bezzecchi's pace.
Marc Márquez also showed satisfaction with his comeback weekend. The nine-time world champion rated his weekend a "10" and emphasised that he was delighted with his performance at his home race given his expectations. Pedro Acosta, meanwhile, used the race as a learning opportunity after spending a long time stuck behind his future Ducati team-mate Márquez.
For Bezzecchi himself, this victory ranks emotionally alongside his first MotoGP win. The Aprilia pilot described the moment as a "dream come true" and underscores the historic significance: Aprilia's first victory at Mugello ends a long wait for the Italian factory from Noale.
