In parallel, disaster management is warning of abnormally high tides along the country's entire coastline. ABC News (Australia) reports that emergency services are explicitly urging the public to avoid unnecessary risks and to stay away from beach sections and harbour piers during tidal surges. Shallow coastal strips are particularly at risk, where water can penetrate far inland.

Storm system amplifies damage potential

The combination of storm system and tidal phenomenon significantly increases the damage potential. According to AllAfrica, disruptive storms have been hitting the Western Cape region since the early morning of 2 June 2026, with wind gusts and heavy rainfall straining road traffic and infrastructure. Emergency services are on heightened alert.

Meteorologists emphasise that while the convergence of a strong cold front with the coastal area is not unusual for this time of year, the intensity of the current warning level indicates an above-average strong event.
