*Update*: Netflix plans 'War Machine' sequel and develops 'And Justice for All' series

Netflix has had a busy day: In addition to strong viewership numbers for current titles, two concrete development projects are emerging that could shape the platform's offering in the coming years.

The biggest news comes from the 'War Machine' sequel. Variety reports that Netflix is already working on a follow-up to the sci-fi military film's surprise success – Alan Ritchson, who plays a Staff Sergeant in it, is set to return. The film has become one of the most-watched titles on the platform, providing the foundation for sequel plans.

In parallel, Deadline exclusively reports that Netflix is developing a series adaptation of 'And Justice for All' – the 1979 legal drama film starring Al Pacino. The streamer is looking for a successor to 'The Lincoln Lawyer', which is coming to an end, and is betting on the legal drama genre. The new series is intended to build on the source material but function as a standalone narrative.

New content and personnel changes

On the viewership side, 'Ladies First' has meanwhile climbed to the top of the Netflix film charts: According to Público, the title has recorded 19 million views and has displaced other competitors from the top spot. The war drama with Mark Wahlberg is also performing strongly, with viewers calling it the Liverpool Echo reports 'best war film since Saving Private Ryan'.

Beyond content, there is also a personnel change: Emily Feingold, at Netflix since 2017 and most recently serving as VP of Communications, is leaving the streamer after eight years. Netflix confirmed her departure and acknowledged her contributions.

Additionally, Netflix has launched a dedicated page for literary adaptations – four of the most-watched English-language series of all time on the platform are based on books, including multiple seasons of 'Bridgerton'. Fans of period dramas also have a mystery film to look forward to, which viewers Reuters reports rank as the 'perfect comfort film' on par with 'Sherlock'. And the true crime drama 'The Witness' – based on the real murder case of Rachel Nickell in 1992 – has received an official release date.
