According to Ukraine, it has attacked targets in Russia, while Russian authorities report damage to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and infrastructure. At the same time, Moscow is strengthening air defence in affected regions.

The situation at the front and in rear areas remains tense. RFE/RL reports that in the Dnipropetrovsk region ten people were injured in Russian attacks and residential buildings, hospitals and infrastructure were damaged.

On the Russian side, authorities report drone attacks on strategic targets. The head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, stated according to Kommersant, that a Ukrainian drone aircraft attacked and damaged the machine house of the sixth power unit of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The power plant is under Russian control and has repeatedly been the target of attacks.

Russian countermeasures and international reactions

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional administration announced that the court will resume operations on 1 June after a drone-related forced pause. In Belgorod, deputy governor Alexander Shuvaev announced according to RBC that from the evening of 30 May street lighting will be restored and mobile internet service will resume.

Moscow is responding to the drone attacks with organisational measures: a new ministry for facility protection is being established in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which will deal with air defence among other things.

On the international level, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern about Russian threats against Armenia and called on the EU to strengthen its support for threatened countries. The US Defence Secretary, meanwhile, emphasised that Washington is learning from Ukraine's drone experience and is investing in the development of drones for its own military.
